OnePlus Pad trademark suggests firm's first Android tablet

MySmartPrice has spotted a listing for the OnePlus Pad on the EUIPO website. This is the European Union Intellectual Property Office and was filed on 1 July.

Unlike some other listings, particularly the FCC in the US, there’s no details or description of the device. It just trademarks the name ‘OnePlus Pad’ which we can assume is an Android tablet. The application is class 9 which is for various technology devices including ‘tablet computers’.

As for when the OnePlus Pad might arrive, possibly soon. The application has a ‘fast track’ status and MySmartPrice suggests it could launch “in the coming months”.

It’s perhaps not a big surprise that a OnePlus tablet is in the works having aligned itself closer to Oppo, its parent company. It, in turn, is owned by BBK Electronics which has the Realme and Vivo brands.

OnePlus Pad trademark

Rumour has it both Oppo and Vivo will be launching tablets this year and Realme has already confirmed it the Realme Pad is coming soon.

We’ll update this article if, or more likely when, any more rumours or leaks surface on the OnePlus Pad. It’s an exciting prospect with the tablet market being fairly stagnant for the last few years, being dominated by Apple and Samsung.

However, apart from the likes of Lenovo, the Galaxy Tab A series and Amazon if you include Fire OS, there’s been a lack of good value Android tablets. So, the likes of OnePlus, Realme and Oppo joining the fray can only be a good thing.
