The ultra-wide-angle camera in today's iPhone 12 handsets has a fixed focus, not autofocus, but that may change in the autumn 2021 line-up. However, unlike the ultra-wide lens itself, which appears in every 2019 and late-2020 iPhone, this upgrade will be confined to the Pro models only.
According to a new report from well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, quoted by MacRumors, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will both feature an upgraded ultra-wide-angle camera. Autofocus instead of fixed focus should provide sharper images regardless of the distance to the subject.

Kuo also states that Apple plans to bring the autofocus ultra-wide-angle camera to all four iPhone models by the year 2022, for what is assumed to be the iPhone 14.
