iPhone 13 Pro to get improved ultra-wide camera

The ultra-wide-angle camera in today's iPhone 12 handsets has a fixed focus, not autofocus, but that may change in the autumn 2021 line-up. However, unlike the ultra-wide lens itself, which appears in every 2019 and late-2020 iPhone, this upgrade will be confined to the Pro models only.

According to a new report from well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, quoted by MacRumors, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will both feature an upgraded ultra-wide-angle camera. Autofocus instead of fixed focus should provide sharper images regardless of the distance to the subject.

More camera enhancements are also expected, such as better performance in low-lit environments. You can read about the upgrades in detail in our guide to the iPhone 13's new camera features. Kuo also states that Apple plans to bring the autofocus ultra-wide-angle camera to all four iPhone models by the year 2022, for what is assumed to be the iPhone 14.
