Today we have news of two upcoming features for this year's new iPhone. First up: improved 5G, and second: a better battery.
At present, only iPhone 12 users in the US are able to use mmWave, which is the faster version of the 5G connection.
However, according to a new report from DigiTimes, mentioned by Macrumors: "More than 50 percent" of this year's iPhone models will receive support for mmWave.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously claimed that support for mmWave will be rolled out in more countries with the launch of this autumn's iPhones. Canada, Australia and Japan, and a number of countries in Europe, will join the US in supporting the standard. Back in April 2021 we reported that iPhone 13 'will support faster 5G'.
The theoretical maximum speed for mmWave is 1-2 gigabits per second, which can be compared with 100-400 megabits per second for what is called Sub-6GHz. On the other hand, the latter technology has a longer range, which is to the benefit of users outside the big cities.
Faster 5G is great news, but it's not the only new feature said to be coming to the iPhone in 2021. According to a Twitter post from the well-known Apple leaker l0vetodream, this autumn's iPhone will have higher capacity batteries, which should mean longer battery life.

The top model - the iPhone 13 Pro Max (we assume) - is said to feature a battery with a capacity of 4,352 milliampere hours, which can be compared to 3,687 milliampere hours for iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, on the other hand, are to get a battery of 3,095 milliampere hours, which is an increase from 2,815 milliampere hours in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
The iPhone 13 Mini iOS set to get a battery of 2,406 milliampere hours, which can be compared to 2,227 milliampere hours for the iPhone 12 Mini. It is interesting to note that the Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 5G modem that Apple us ecpected to use is said to require less power.
