There have been plenty of rumours indicating that Apple plans to offer camera improvements for the next generation iPhone and now we can get an idea of how these improvements will change the physical design of the new iPhones.
MacRumors has managed to obtain some schematics that are based on various rumours about Apple’s plans for the iPhone 13 generation. Schematics are used by case manufactures to get a head start on their designs for their new products.
The designs suggest that the camera module will be larger than previously - which is to be expected based on the rumoured camera features coming to the new iPhones.
If the schematics are correct, the iPhone 13 will have a 2.51mm camera bump. This will protrude further than the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro feature which were from 1.5mm to 1.7mm thick.
The camera module will also be larger. Currently the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro camera bumps measure around 28mm by 30mm. The iPhone 13 camera bump will be more square and measure around 29mm by 29mm. This bump will be located about a millimeter closer to the top.
One key difference is that where on previous iPhones the individual camera lenses protrude, in the new iPhones the camera bump itself will protrude more than the lenses.
As a result the iPhone will be thicker, with the new models measuring 7.57mm thick, up a from 7.4mm for the iPhone 12.
These designs are similar to dummy models shared by Unbox Therapy on 4 May.
